Lash Lift and Tint: Why Shape Is Only Half the Job
A lash lift changes the shape of your lashes. It does nothing at all to their colour. That single sentence explains why some people walk out delighted and others walk out quietly wondering whether anything happened.

Look at Your Tips, Not Your Roots
Almost everyone has lashes that are darkest at the base and lighter towards the ends. The question is how much lighter.
Stand at a mirror in daylight and look at where your lashes end. If you can trace each lash all the way to its tip against your skin, a lift on its own will show up clearly. If the last few millimetres disappear, that is the part a lift cannot fix. You will have lifted lashes that visually stop short, and the curl you paid for will be doing its work in a colour your eye cannot follow.

Who Should Definitely Add It
Four groups where tint changes the outcome.
Fair, red and strawberry blonde lashes
The clearest case. Lashes may be a completely different tone from the hair on your head, and pale lashes against pale skin have very little contrast to work with. This is the group most likely to book a lift, see a modest change, and conclude that lifts do not work on them.
Lashes that have started going grey
Greying happens on lashes as it does elsewhere, usually a few at a time. Those individual pale lashes break up the line, and tint brings them back into it.
Anyone stopping mascara
If part of the appeal is not reaching for mascara every morning, tint is what makes that realistic. Mascara has been doing two jobs, shape and colour, and a lift only replaces one of them.
Anyone photographing the result
Cameras are less forgiving than mirrors, and phone cameras flatten contrast further. Lashes that read fine in person can disappear entirely in a photo, which is worth knowing if this is booked for an event.
Who Can Skip It
If your lashes are naturally dark to the tips, tint adds very little and we will tell you so. Paying $25 for a change nobody can see is not a good outcome for either of us.
There is also a timing case for skipping it. If you are booked in soon for something that matters, and you have never had a tint before, that is not the appointment to try one. Do it on a normal week instead, and tell us about any sensitivity around the eyes before we start.
The Two Clocks Nobody Warns You About
This is the part that catches people out. The lift and the tint do not expire together.
A keratin lift is quoted at eight to twelve weeks, because it lives on the lashes you have now and fades as those lashes are replaced. A tint lasts around four weeks. So somewhere in week five you may notice the definition softening while the curl is still perfectly good, and conclude the whole thing is wearing off. It is not. The colour went first.
We recommend a tint refresh partway through the cycle. A lash tint on its own is $30, so a mid cycle top up is a small visit that carries the lift through to its natural end.

Aftercare Is the Same, With One Addition
Tint does not change the rules that protect your lift. We recommend avoiding excessive heat and steam, such as hot yoga, sauna or steam showers, for 24 hours. You can wash your face the same night. Keep oils, heavy creams, makeup wipes and micellar water away from the lash line, and avoid sleeping directly on the lashes as much as you can.
The addition is that oil now works against two things at once. Oil based removers lift colour as well as loosening the curl, so an oil free remover is the single product change worth making. And when you do go back to mascara, leave the waterproof kind out permanently, because removing it takes exactly the rubbing and the oils that shorten both.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a tint without a lift?
Yes. A lash tint on its own is $30, and $25 when it is added to a lift. Plenty of clients book a standalone tint midway through their lift to refresh the colour once it has faded.
Will the tint look obviously dyed?
The aim is your lashes as they read at the root, carried to the tip. It should look like your lashes had always been that colour, not like a product was applied. Let us know how subtle or how dark you want it, and we will match it. That conversation belongs at the start of the appointment.
Does the tint touch my eye?
It is applied to the lashes with the eyes closed and shielded. If you have sensitive eyes or have ever reacted to a hair colour, let us know before the appointment so we can talk it through first.
Why did my tint fade so much faster than my curl?
Because it is meant to. Tint is quoted at around four weeks and the lift at eight to twelve. Oil based cleansers and makeup removers speed the fade further, which is the most common reason it goes sooner than expected.
Can I add tint after the lift, at a separate visit?
You can, but it costs $30 instead of $25 and it is a second trip. If you already know your tips are pale, adding it in the same appointment is simply cheaper and easier.
