Every week someone sits in our chair and asks the same excellent question: "Should I get a lash lift or extensions?" The honest answer is that neither is better. They are two different tools for two different lives, and the right choice depends far more on your mornings, your gym schedule and your patience for upkeep than on any beauty trend.

The Two Treatments in One Minute
A lash lift works with what you already have. Your natural lashes are set over a silicone shield and a gentle perm solution fixes them into an upward curl, usually paired with a tint for depth. Nothing is added, so there is nothing to fill later.
Extensions add what nature did not. Individual synthetic fibres are glued to each of your natural lashes, one by one, building whatever length and fullness you and your artist agree on, from a subtle "am I wearing mascara" effect to full glamour.

Or you simply want to look rested without wearing makeup, which is the lift-and-tint specialty.
Extensions Fit You If
You want visible length and fullness that no perm can create from short or sparse natural lashes. You enjoy a defined, done look every single day and consider twenty minutes of daily care a fair trade for never touching mascara again. You can commit to fills every two to three weeks, because extensions are a subscription, not a purchase. Special-occasion guests fall here too: a wedding set, worn for a season, is a classic.

What Each Appointment Feels Like
A lift is the nap appointment. Eyes stay closed for about an hour while the shields and solutions do their work. There is no pain, only the odd sensation of someone very carefully organizing your lashes. You leave with the curl already in place and one rule for the first day: keep the lashes dry for 24 hours, then live normally.
A full set of extensions is a longer, equally passive experience. Under-eye pads go on, your eyes stay closed, and the artist works lash by lash for two to three hours. Many guests fall asleep. Aftercare is where the discipline starts: no water on the lashes for the first day, daily brushing with a clean spoolie, cleansing with an oil-free lash wash, and a return visit every two to three weeks as your natural lashes shed and take their passengers with them.
The Health of Your Natural Lashes
Done properly, neither service damages natural lashes, and "done properly" carries the whole sentence. For lifts it means respecting the 6 to 8 week gap between treatments so the perm never stacks on itself. For extensions it means an artist who matches fibre weight to each natural lash and never glues two lashes together. Shortcuts on either produce breakage, which is why bargain lash work so often costs more to repair than it saved.
One more honest note: extensions removed after months of continuous wear can reveal lashes that feel thin, mostly because you stopped seeing your bare lashes months ago. A break between sets, or a switch to a lift for a season, lets everything reset.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Wear Mascara With Either?
With a lift, yes, from day two, though most guests stop bothering once the tint is on. With extensions, skip it. Mascara clumps the fibres, weakens the adhesive and shortens the life of the set.
Which Looks More Natural?
A lift, by design, because it is entirely your own lashes. That said, a well-mapped set of classic extensions in a conservative length reads as natural to everyone except your lash artist. The giveaway is always going too long, not the technique itself.
Can I Switch Between the Two?
Yes, and many guests rotate: extensions for the social season, a lift for summer swimming months. The only rule is timing, since a fresh lift needs to grow out before a set goes on. Your artist maps the switch at your appointment.
I Have Very Short, Sparse Lashes. Do I Have Options?
Extensions are usually the stronger answer, because a lift can only curl what exists. There still needs to be a healthy natural lash for each extension to hold onto, which is exactly what the consultation checks before anything is booked.
Is There Anyone These Services Do Not Suit?
Active eye infections, very recent eye surgery, and current use of certain lash growth serums all earn a postponement. Known adhesive allergies rule out extensions specifically, and a patch test is available if you are unsure. Bring your history to the consultation and we will find the safe route.
